Our Story

Messina’s Shoe and Boot Repair is the continuation of a multi-generational family history that began in the nineteenth century in Italy.

Owner Sam Messina is a fourth generation craftsman whose great grandfather, Mauro was a Sicilian shoe maker.

In 1904 Mauro’s son Sam and his brother Joe, along with their families emigrated from Sicily to start a new business and a new life in the United States.

They settled in Dallas Texas where they opened a shoe repair store downtown.

Messina Brothers Shoe Service endured for many years-through two World Wars and the Depression. Sam taught his sons the trade and they carried on the craft by opening several shoe repairs in the Dallas area. Sam’s youngest son, Joe would eventually open his own shop in Highland Park in the 40’s after serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

In 1975 Joe passed the torch to his oldest son, and his father’s namesake, Sam. Sam moved the shop to its current location in Grapevine in 1977 and Messina’s has been a bustling and beloved business on historic Main St. ever since.

Over the thirty plus years that Sam has run the business, he has trained and mentored a brother, a brother in law and a nephew who eventually went on to open their own shops. The craft has been passed to the next generation as all three of Sam’s children work to keep the business in top form.

Because of the sense of pride felt in being part of such a rich history, great care is taken to make sure that the reputation Messina’s has earned through the years remains strong.
